UK Practice Design Award 2015

A veterinary practice in Kirkintilloch has beaten off stiff competition from all over the UK to win a prestigious award for its facilities.

Not only did Martin Veterinary Centre at Southbank Marina come out top in “Best Conversion” category in the British Veterinary Hospitals Association’s Design Awards 2015, it was also named overall winner.

The British Veterinary Hospitals Association represents the highest standard of veterinary practice in the UK.

Previous Scottish winners include Glasgow University’s small animal hospital. The £15m facility scooped the overall prize in 2009.

As part of the awards process, the facilities and premises at the new Martin Veterinary Centre, which opened in January 2014, underwent an intensive examination by inspectors.

The inspection covers a whole range of issues relating to the running of the vet practice and the care of its patients – and particularly how the design of the premises contributes to clinical efficiency and standards.

Vet Lynn Martin, who is a former pupil of Kirkintilloch High School, said this week: “I was amazed to win. It was a real bolt from the blue.

“I always had a dream to design my own veterinary practice and I am so pleased it turned out the way it did.”

2015 was a wonderful year for Martin Veterinary Centre. We have all loved looking after your pets both old and new.

We were announced as the British Veterinary Hospital Association winner for the conversion of our new surgery at Southbank Marina.

Lynn Martin and her husband Gillies Walker went to the award ceremony in London. They were both surprised and delighted to be announced as overall winners of hospital design as well.

This is such an honour for us as the only other building to be awarded with such merit in Scotland is the University of Glasgow Veterinary Hospital. Years of planning and development has gone into the practice we work in today, so it is lovely to have it recognised with such a prestigious pair of awards.

We hope you have all enjoyed our move to the Marina and enjoy attending the practice as much as we enjoy working here.
